【摘要】:Physicalconstantsofpaintsandcoatingsarerequiredinallaspectsoftheirformulation,manufactureanduse.Thispracticedemonstratesstandardmethodsagreeduponforcalculatingformulationvaluesforsomeofthesephysicalconstants.Thecalculationsarethesameforeithermetricorinch/poundunits.Theseformulavaluesmaynotbeusedtoreplacemeasuredvaluesrequiredbygovernmentregulationsunlessspecificallystatedinthegoverningdocuments.Someregulationsallowcompliancedeterminationusingformulationdatainsteadofanalyticaldata.Thisformulationdatamaynotyieldthesameresultsastherequiredanalyticalmethod,whichcouldbeperformedonasamplefromanyproductionbatchofthecoating.Inthesecases,theusermaywishtocompareformulationdatatoanalyticaldataanddevelopafactorthatadjustsforvariabilityofrawmaterials,variabilityofproductionbatches,curevolatiles,andvariabilityoftheanalyticalmethods.1.1Thispracticecoversprocedurescommonlyusedinthepaintindustrytoformulatepaintsandcoatingmaterials.Itdescribesproceduresforcalculatingformulationvaluesforweightsolids,volumesolids,solventcontent,volatileorganiccompound(VOC)content,hazardousairpollutant(HAP)content,anddensityofliquidpaintsandcoatings.Thesevaluesarecalculatedfrombasicformulationdata.Thesecalculationsmayberelatedtoeitheras-supplied(unreduced)oras-applied(reduced)coatingmaterials,includingmulticomponenttypes.1.2Thesecalculated,formulation-basedvaluesmayormaynotbeacceptableforVOCregulatorypurposes,dependingonthespecificwordingoftheapplicableregulation.Someregulationsrequireanalysisofthecoating.Somerulesallowtheuseofformulationdata,however,someadjustmentsmaybeneededtothevaluescalculatedinthispracticebeforetheyareusedforregulatorypurposes(see4.3).1.3Forpurposesofthispractice,itisassumedthatvolatilecomponentsevaporateandthematerialsthatremainareidentifiedascoatingsolids.Forexample,solventsarenormallyusedtoadjustviscosityforapplicationandappearanceofthecoating.Otherliquidmaterials,suchasplasticizers,reactivediluents,etc.,thatareexpectedtoberetainedinthedriedfilmtoaffectthefinalphysicalpropertiesshouldbeclassifiedaspartofthecoatingsolids.StandardssuchasTestMethodsD2369,D4758,D5403andGuideD2832maybeusedtodeterminevolatileornonvolatilecontentofspecificcomponents.Forpurposesofthispracticeitisassumedthattheblendedformulationbehavesasanidealsolutionwithnovolumechangeonmixing(see6.2).1.4Volatileby-productsofcross-linkingreactions(curevolatiles)arenotconsideredinthesecalculationssincetheobjectofthispracticeistodefinepaintphysicalconstantsbasedonformulationinformation.Variationsinrawmaterials,variationsintheproductionprocesses,testmethods,andtestmethod......
